Senior Packaging Designer
The role
Our Role
As Senior Packaging Designer, you will lead the creative development of packaging across The White Company’s product categories, bringing inspiring ideas to life from initial concept through to production-ready artwork.
Combining strong creative vision with technical expertise, you will create thoughtful, distinctive packaging design that enhances our products and reflects the quality of our brand. You will explore graphics, materials, structures and finishes, balancing fresh ideas with commercial requirements, sustainability considerations and a consistent brand identity.
Collaboration is central to this role. Working closely with Creative, Buying, QA, Sustainability teams, you will translate briefs and seasonal direction into beautifully resolved packaging, ensuring every detail is considered through development and production.
The role also requires graphic design skills, which may be applied to wider projects across the Home department as needed.
This is a hands-on role for an imaginative, experienced designer who can inspire others, present ideas confidently and take ownership of design delivery across multiple projects and categories.
What you'll be doing
- Creative concept development: interpret briefs and seasonal direction to develop inspiring packaging concepts, presenting clear creative routes through sketches, mock-ups and material references.
- Design across multiple categories: create packaging for Home, Fragrance, Clothing and The Little White Company, responding to each category’s needs while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.
- Take designs from concept to artwork: develop approved ideas into complete packaging schemes, producing accurate artwork, specifications and production-ready files across formats and SKU ranges.
- Explore materials, structures and finishes: propose thoughtful combinations of typography, colour, illustration, print techniques and construction that elevate the product and customer experience.
- Collaborate across the business: work closely with Creative, Buying, QA and Sustainability to resolve design requirements, incorporate specialist input and balance creative ambition with cost, functionality and production feasibility.
- Deliver against the agreed critical path: work closely with Project Managers and relevant teams, taking accountability for design milestones, providing clear progress updates, incorporating feedback and securing approvals on time, and flagging risks early to support timely delivery.
- Create and assess prototypes: produce mock-ups and work with Buying and suppliers to review samples, print proofs, materials and finishes, refining designs to achieve the intended result.
- Maintain design and artwork quality: check layouts, typography, colour references and file preparation, incorporating approved copy and technical information supplied by the relevant teams.
- Apply graphic design skills across wider projects: where required, contribute design expertise to other projects across the Home department, ensuring a cohesive and considered brand aesthetic.
- Work to the critical path: partner with the project management team to plan design stages, communicate progress and flag risks, ensuring concepts, reviews and final artwork are delivered on time.
- Bring fresh inspiration: share relevant developments in packaging, design, materials and customer experience, identifying opportunities to evolve our approach.
- Build consistent design systems: develop packaging guidelines, templates and artwork standards that support quality and consistency across categories.
What Skills & Experience You’ll Need
- Significant experience in packaging design within a premium retail, lifestyle, beauty, fragrance or home brand, or a relevant design agency.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating original thinking, refined design judgement and delivery from initial concept through to finished packaging.
- Excellent graphic design skills, with a confident understanding of typography, layout, colour, materials and finishes.
- Strong technical knowledge of packaging artwork, print processes, colour management and production requirements.
- High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, with the ability to create compelling design, mock-ups and accurate production-ready artwork.
- Experience developing packaging across multiple product categories and formats.
- A collaborative approach, with the confidence to present ideas, build relationships and work through feedback with creative and technical stakeholders.
- An understanding of how sustainability, cost and functionality inform packaging decisions without compromising design quality.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage your own design workload across multiple projects and deadlines.
