About the role

Brooklyn Museum is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer to lead the design of the retail store, product design, and develop digital assets for a variety of visitor-facing channels to support digital content and marketing needs. A typical day for this role might include producing a suite of digital banner assets, aligning on ad creatives strategy and expectations for an upcoming marketing campaign; and meeting with the Senior Buyer to plan a new assortment strategy for evergreen merchandise.

Reporting to the Director of Graphic Design and Brand Creative, this role will work directly and collaboratively with the Senior Director of Marketing and the Retail team. At the Brooklyn Museum, your work will have a direct impact on advancing our mission to inspire, educate, and engage the community through art and culture.

Responsibilities:
 
Marketing and Digital
  • Develop digital assets aligning with integrated marketing strategies for both organic and paid channels - including but not limited to email content, website, branded social posts, banner ads, and paid social ads. Content deliverables are expected to be visitor centric, reflect marketing needs, and ensure brand continuity and consistency.
  • Collaborate with digital, marketing, and graphic design teams to translate brand and exhibition design concepts into specific marketing assets that are appropriate for the medium (e.g. size, format, resolution, etc.)
  • Actively participate in creative concepts ideation, collaborative brainstorming, and digital and marketing strategy development.
  • Refine existing assets and templates to optimize digital assets to generate higher marketing ROIs.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and emerging trends in graphic design and digital marketing
  • Oversee project timelines and production of all assigned projects and assets.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Graphic Design and Brand Creative, ensure a consistent usage and portrayal of the Brooklyn Museum's identity guidelines across all mediums.
  • Offer guidance to junior graphic designers and interns when appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned to support the Graphic Design department as needed

Retail and F&B
  • Working with the Senior Buyer, Director of Graphic Design and Brand Creative, and external brand partners to design Brooklyn Museum logo products and collaboration capsule collections
  • Design and execute retail displays in collaboration with the retail team and partners.
  • Manage art direction and guidelines of all merchandising images for print, digital, PR, e-commerce, etc.
  • Design and produce signage, marketing collateral, labels, and wayfinding as needed.
  • Influence strategy for product categories, providing recommendations regarding seasonal themes and trends, ensuring products meet museum and customer needs.
  • Design and deploy home pages, landing pages, and all other online content, (including category, product and storytelling pages) for the online shop and Instagram store.
  • Apply design thinking skills to a variety of scales, ensuring there is a through-line that connects projects to the museum's mission and vision.

Qualifications:
  • BFA or MFA in graphic design or related field and 5-8 years of professional work experience in graphic design or a related field
  • Excellent creative skills characterized by identifying the critical elements of various retail projects and distilling those observations into creative solutions.
  • Good judgment; capable of evaluating alternative methods to achieve quality outcomes
  • Competent with retail computer programs as well as Word, Excel, Google Drive, Slack
  • Competent with 2D software; Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Lightroom. Experience with basic web design; HTML, CSS a plus
  • Proficient in social media; Instagram, Twitter, Facebook (including Shop), and Blog posting
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Friendly attitude; able to work well inter-departmentally and with different management levels
  • Highly organized, self-starter
  • Exceptional collaboration skills
  • Passion for the Brooklyn Museum and ability to articulate its mission

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work at computer stations for long periods
  • Possess average manual dexterity for detailed work
  • Occasional lifting of boxes required

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
