Lead Brand Designer
The role
This is a hands-on design role. You'll work alongside our Creative Director, leading the creative design development of brand identity systems and translating approved brand strategy into distinctive, considered and practical creative outcomes. You'll still design. A lot. This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys being in the work. Developing concepts. Interrogating ideas. Exploring different directions. Refining systems. And taking a brand from strategic thinking through to a beautifully resolved identity. You'll work directly with clients where required, presenting concepts, reviewing concepts from other team members, explaining the thinking behind the work and confidently guiding creative conversations. Internally, you'll also provide clear and considered feedback on design development, helping us maintain a consistently high creative standard across the studio.
Key responsibilities
- Leading creative design development alongside our Creative Director
- Translating brand strategies into distinctive, relevant and scalable identity systems
- Taking ideas from early creative exploration through to fully resolved brand systems
- Thinking beyond the logo and considering how an identity needs to perform across print, digital, environmental, packaging and communication touchpoints
- Developing creative solutions that respond to the organisation, audience and strategic intent rather than personal preference or design trends
- Reviewing internal creative work and contributing thoughtful, actionable feedback to other team members.
- Presenting brand identity concepts and creative rationale directly to clients
- Working through client feedback without losing sight of the strategy behind the work
- Maintaining consistency across identity systems, guidelines and brand applications
- Remaining hands-on across priority client projects from concept development through to implementation
About you
- You've worked in a brand, creative or design agency environment and understand the pace, variety and responsibility that comes with agency life
- You have genuine experience developing brand identity systems informed by brand strategy
- You understand positioning, audience, personality, architecture and narrative, and can translate that thinking into an identity
- An experienced brand designer with a strong portfolio of identity work
- Conceptually strong, not simply technically capable
- Experienced in developing visual identity systems from defined brand strategies
- Confident working across both print and digital brand environments
- Comfortable explaining why you've made a design decision
- Confident presenting concepts and speaking directly with clients
- Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of your work
About us
At Bl_nk, we work with established organisations that have grown, evolved and become more complex than their brand was originally designed to support. More services. More products. More audiences. More locations. More moving parts. Our job is to make sense of that complexity, find the clarity underneath it and build brands that help people understand what an organisation is, what makes it different and where it's going.
We believe the strongest brands are built from understanding. We work with leadership teams, employees, stakeholders, customers and communities to understand what's happening beneath the surface. By the time brand identity development begins, there should be a reason behind the decisions we're making. Strategy creates the clarity. Design gives it form.
We're a small team. Culture isn't a paragraph somebody wrote for the careers page. It's how we actually work together. We care about the quality of our work, but we also care about the experience and the environment we work within to support the creation of it. We want people around us who share ideas, ask questions, support each other and contribute to the work beyond whatever is sitting on their own desk.
