The role

Veilbreaker Studios™ is an independent Arma modding and game development studio dedicated to creating highly immersive, detail-driven interactive experiences. The team specializes in environmental storytelling, realistic weapon systems, and historically grounded visual and gameplay design. Its flagship project, Iron Horizon, is a historically accurate World War II mod that spans major theaters of combat from 1939 to 1945, with large-scale maps, realistic units, and meticulously crafted assets. Veilbreaker Studios™ places strong emphasis on authenticity, precision, and depth, ensuring every asset serves both realism and gameplay. The studio culture values craftsmanship, accuracy, and close collaboration among team members.

Role Description

The Graphic Designer will work max 12 hours a week or more if requested, collaborating closely with artists, designers, and developers to shape the visual identity of Iron Horizon and other studio projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating in-game graphics, UI elements, and promotional materials; developing visual concepts that align with historically grounded themes; and refining assets to meet accuracy and immersion standards. The role involves designing logos, icons, and branding assets for the studio and its projects, applying consistent typography and layout across digital and print media, and preparing files for use in game engines and marketing channels. The Graphic Designer will participate in creative reviews, iterate based on feedback, and partner with the team to maintain cohesive visual direction and high-quality presentation across all touchpoints.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Graphics and Graphic Design, with a portfolio demonstrating immersive, detail-focused visual work.
  • Experience in Logo Design and Branding, including creating cohesive identities for projects or studios.
  • Proficiency in Typography and layout, with the ability to apply type choices that support clarity, mood, and historical context.
  • Advanced skills in industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or equivalent).
  • Ability to translate historical references and design briefs into accurate, engaging visual assets for games.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including openness to feedback and iterative design workflows.
  • Prior experience in game development, modding, or entertainment media is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant education or equivalent practical experience in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.

Benefits

  • Showcase by Permission Only, you may showcase your work (e.g., on ArtStation) only after receiving explicit, written approval from the Studio Director so there are no early teases of the game.
  • Artists (Pre-Release), standalone 3D models and concept art may be approved for portfolios during development on a case-by-case basis.
  • Programmers (Strict Lockdown), gameplay code, repository files, and backend scripts are trade secrets. To protect the game from being copied or exploited, source code cannot be shared publicly under any circumstances, even after release. Programmers can list their technical achievements on a resume, but the actual code remains strictly confidential and property of Veilbreaker Studios.
  • Guaranteed Credit, your name will remain in the game's final credits, even if you leave the project before launch, provided your contributed work is used in the final build.
  • Verified References, the studio will provide official letters of recommendation or LinkedIn professional endorsements to help you land future paid industry jobs.
  • Life-First Scheduling, we have no mandatory weekly hours. You set your own pace to accommodate your day job, school, and personal life.
  • Cap on Hours, to protect your work-life balance, voluntary hours max out at 12 hours per week. If you ever wish to do more, just let leadership know!
  • Fast Hiring Process, no weeks of waiting around. We review applications and onboard talent quickly.

Financial Status & Future Outlook

  • Current Unpaid Status, every member of Veilbreaker Studios—including leadership—is currently a 100% unpaid volunteer. No financial compensation exists right now.
  • Future Paid Salaries, we want you to know we are actively working on securing a budget so we can transition away from being fully voluntary. Our ultimate goal is to provide financial compensation in the form of yearly salaries that mirror standard gaming industry rates.

Confidentiality and Security (NDA Required Eventually)

  • Legal Agreement: All team members must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before gaining access to the game repository or asset files.
  • Zero Leak Policy: Streaming development, sharing project builds with outsiders, or posting unapproved screenshots/code online is strictly prohibited.
  • Conditional Legal Agreement, we are currently working on our official Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). While not required immediately, we may request that you sign one at any random point during development, especially as we scale up asset access.

Studio Ownership

  • Exclusive Rights, Veilbreaker Studios retains exclusive, permanent ownership of the game and all assets created for it.
