The role

About Fire Department Coffee

Fire Department Coffee (FDC) is a fast-growing, veteran- and firefighter-founded coffee company with a passion for crafting delicious coffee with a mission to give back to firefighters.

Our products are sold online and through major retailers across the United States and Canada. From our classic coffee roasts and proprietary Spirit Infused Coffees to limited-edition products and merchandise, we’re consistently developing ways to introduce our brand and mission to the world.

Creativity is a big part of who we are. Our brand combines great-tasting coffee, a strong sense of humor, and a genuine commitment to supporting our fellow firefighters. We're looking for a talented and experienced Graphic Designer who shares our enthusiasm for great coffee and great design.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, creative, and detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join our team.

Working directly with our Chief Creative Officer, you'll help shape the visual identity of Fire Department Coffee across a wide variety of projects, including product packaging, marketing campaigns, digital advertising, e-commerce, retail displays, and promotional materials.

We're looking for someone who can confidently manage multiple creative projects from concept through completion. The ideal candidate combines strong design fundamentals with creative problem-solving, efficient execution, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with our creative and marketing teams.

This is a hands-on creative position for someone who enjoys the entire design process, from brainstorming concepts and developing original artwork to refining layouts and preparing final production files.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, brings fresh ideas to the table, and understands how compelling design can help tell our story and connect with customers.

Key Responsibilities

Brand Creative & Graphic Design

  • Develop on-brand, engaging designs and layouts across print, digital, and retail channels while maintaining a consistent and recognizable brand identity.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Creative Officer and creative team to develop concepts, campaign visuals, and creative solutions that support the brand's marketing objectives.

Product Packaging & Print Design

  • Design and produce packaging files, merchandise graphics, and other printed materials for new products, seasonal releases, and ongoing product lines.
  • Prepare accurate, production-ready artwork and collaborate with printers and vendors to ensure quality and consistency.

Digital Marketing & E-Commerce

  • Create compelling graphics and visual content for email marketing, SMS marketing, social media, digital advertising, website, and e-commerce platforms.
  • Develop and adapt creative assets that effectively communicate product features, promotional messaging, and brand storytelling across multiple channels.

Retail, Advertising & Promotional Design

  • Design retail displays, point-of-sale materials, presentations, trade show graphics, and promotional assets for retail partners, events, and marketing initiatives.
  • Translate creative briefs and marketing objectives into visually engaging designs that communicate clearly and effectively.

Creative Collaboration & Project Management

  • Independently manage multiple creative projects from concept through completion while maintaining quality, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, communicate project progress, contribute creative ideas, and proactively identify solutions to design challenges.

Design Software & Creative Tools

Required Proficiency

  • Advanced skills with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, with advanced skills in image editing, layout, and production-ready artwork.
  • Strong working knowledge of digital and print design workflows, including file preparation, color management, and output specifications.

Preferred Additional Skills & Experience

  • Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, or comparable motion graphics and video editing software.
  • Adobe Firefly, Photoshop generative features, and other AI-assisted creative tools.
  • Figma, Adobe XD, or similar collaborative design platforms.
  • Product photography, photo retouching, image compositing, and realistic product mockup creation.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional graphic design experience in an in-house creative department, agency, or comparable freelance environment.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, versatility, and a solid understanding of graphic design principles.
  • Experience designing for both print and digital applications, including packaging, marketing, and promotional materials.
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, composition, color theory, and visual communication.
  • Ability to develop original creative concepts and independently execute projects based on established creative direction.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work efficiently, prioritize projects, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing packaging and marketing materials for consumer packaged goods (CPG), particularly food and beverage brands.
  • Familiarity with retail packaging requirements, product labeling, and print production processes.
  • Experience developing creative assets for Shopify, Klaviyo, or similar e-commerce and marketing platforms.
  • An interest in illustration, custom lettering, or other creative disciplines that can add personality to brand design.

What Makes Someone a Great Fit?

We're a creative, collaborative team that moves quickly and works on a wide variety of projects. Some days you'll be developing packaging for a new coffee release. Other days you might be creating an email campaign, designing a retail display, or working on graphics for a national promotion.

We'd love to find someone who

  • Genuinely enjoys design and takes pride in the details.
  • Can think creatively while understanding the practical needs of marketing and production.
  • Brings ideas and solutions to the table rather than waiting for every detail to be provided.
  • Works confidently and independently while knowing when to collaborate or seek feedback.
  • Can balance creativity, efficiency, and accuracy while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Is equally comfortable developing a new concept or refining an existing design.
  • Enjoys being part of a team where collaboration, humor, and a shared sense of purpose are part of the culture.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary: Salary: $75,000 – $80,000 annually based on experience and portfolio.
  • Full-time, on-site position, remote.
  • Benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a portfolio of relevant design work. We'd especially love to see examples of branding, packaging, marketing campaigns, digital creative, and projects that demonstrate your creative process and attention to detail.

We're interested in seeing not just what you've designed, but how you think as a designer.
