The role

Picture a traveller scrolling late at night, thumb pausing on a frame of a rattan daybed beside a quiet plunge pool. That pause is the moment we design for. GDA, the Gaia Digital Agency team in Ubud, wants someone in the art director chair able to create those pauses on purpose, account after account.

Our studio handles social channels, websites, paid advertising, search, photography, film and AI work for a wide mix of clients. A large share of them welcome guests for a living: boutique hotels, resorts, villa collections, retreats, cafes and restaurants, with wellness and medical brands also on the roster.

We need you full-time, and the desk is in our Ubud studio, on-site every working day. The visual standard of the whole client list sits with you. You decide how each brand should look, brief and coach the designers and the photo and video crew, and approve completed work before a client ever sees it.

Over an ordinary month you could be shaping a rough request into a concept board, a shot list and a production plan that respects the money available; directing a shoot in a villa bedroom at dawn or behind a busy pass in a restaurant kitchen; marking up drafts with notes precise enough to fix things in one pass; writing identity rules covering logo use, palette and type so a resort feels like itself on Instagram, on its booking site and in its ads; and talking clients through your thinking in English, then refining it after their feedback. You will sit with our social, paid media and web colleagues so that every visual is tied to bookings and covers, not just likes.

Our ideal hire has genuinely held the top creative seat, as art director or as lead of a creative unit, with responsibility for what a team produced, rather than only executing other people's direction. Hospitality matters most to us: the work you show should include brand projects for a hotel, a resort, a villa or a restaurant. We also value a sharp eye for composition, light and typography, comfort with vertical video, patience in growing junior creatives, and assured English, written as well as spoken, for presentations and critiques.

What you get back is a portfolio of properties that real guests will see before they travel, plus daily collaboration with specialists in search, ads, social and development who understand how a hotel or a dining room fills up.

To apply, press apply on this post and paste in where your portfolio lives online, flag the hospitality pieces you steered yourself, and give a sentence on the reasoning that shaped every one. In that same note, state how much you hope to earn per month and the length of notice, in days, owed to whoever employs you now.
