Description

The Department of Art at in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the department teaching courses at a 3/3 load with the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development of the BA program, which should complement and expand the goals of the department. In addition to teaching, service to the university and research in the candidate’s chosen field of study is expected.

Examples of Duties

  • Conduct research and creative endeavors commiserate with an Assistant Professor tenure track appointment.
  • Teach a 3/3 load of undergraduate classes within the department.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Undertake service at the department, college and university level.
  • Provide service to the profession and the broader community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field (e.g., Interaction Design, Web Design, User Experience).
  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of teaching as an adjunct or other relevant teaching experience.
  • Evidence of professional work demonstrating a mastery of candidate’s chosen field.
  • Technical proficiency in industry standard software and hardware.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Web design or UX/UI design.
  • In-depth knowledge of typography with a demonstrated mastery.
  • Well versed in the theory of graphic design of contemporary practice as both fine art and applied discipline.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional industry experience in graphic design or related fields.
  • Minimum of three to four (3-4) years of teaching at collegiate level.
  • Familiarity with Mac hardware-based labs.
  • Studio art proficiency.
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • Strong record of student advisement and department and university service.
  • Industry recognition (awards, honors, etc.) that demonstrate a high level of professional engagement with contemporary practice.
  • Expansive Software knowledge and design prowess to teach various courses if needed.
